Buying Guide: Best Router For Xfinity Comcast Internet

1. What Are The Benefits Of Buying Own Comcast Approved Router? Is It Time To Replace Comcast Router?

Cost

The cost factor is one of the main reasons or benefits of buying your own Xfinity Comcast certified router. It is simple to understand that ISPs charge rent on their provided modem or router, right? However, The Xfinity Comcast gateway charges around $10 to $15 per month, depending on the modem/router, on their provided unit. So what? If you think carefully, we can save money if we purchase our own.

For example, if we rent a router for 12 months, then the cost would be around $120 to $150, right? In this price range, we can easily buy our own router. However, if you don’t want to use any router for more than a year, then I would suggest you rent it. Other than that, Make sure you have your own router.

Performance:

The second thing that is the performance of the router, which I think, is also very important if you buy our own Comcast compatible router. As these ISPs advertise that they will provide you ‘blazing fast’ router. But most of the time they don’t, chances are they can give you an outdated router, meaning slow and not up to the mark when it comes to WiFi performance. On the other hand, if we buy our own, we clearly could see the excellent performance with.

More Controls:

No doubt, Modern routers offer great options for controls, whether it is parental controls or guest controls. If your provided Xfinity Comcast router is an outdated or not modern one, meaning you are likely to get more parental controls compared to your own.

For Example, Let’s talk about our list’s first router – Netgear Nighthawk R7000. The R7000 comes with an app that allows parental controls directly from your phone. Using this app, you can control your kids’ devices, set up specific times, block website, and which websites need to be allowed, all can be done within minutes.

Easy Access:

Most provided Comcast routers from ISPs doesn’t support Guest network. I consider Guest network one of the best features in routers as it provides an extra layer of security and a lot of conveniences. Within a few clicks, we can quickly create guest networks and give easy access to them while keeping guests away from your secured private network. But with a rent router, it seems impossible.

Bandwidth Prioritization:

Just like Parental and Guest network, The Bandwidth prioritization is another excellent feature that we get from a modern router. The QoS (Quality of service) can be normal or dynamic. Most expensive routers come with Dynamic QoS. Basically, this feature is used to prioritize bandwidth for a specific app or device. For example, if you are streaming or playing games, you need more bandwidth than normal browser surfing. So, if you are renting one, make sure it has QoS feature or buy your own.

Firmware:

Firmware means Third-party Firmware. There are many third-party popular and powerful firmware available on the market, such as DD-WRT, OpenWrt, Tomato, and many more. For example, if you install DD-WRT, you will more options compared to standard firmware. Meaning, you can customize it easily. So, installing third-party firmware on renting router is not possible for you.

But what If you use your own wireless router? How would you use it and connect it to the Comcast Internet network?
